Kasuga Campus, University of Tsukuba
Asia/Tokyo timezone
The RPMBT22 has finished! Thank you for your participation.

Venue, Lunch, Social events, etc.

Tsukuba city is known for its many academic and research institutes. However, it is not all about science in Tsukuba. The city's symbol, Mt. Tsukuba,  is listed as one of Japan's 100 famous mountains. The elegant mountain that stands in the northeast of the Kanto Plain has been expressed in a noble color, and is called "Purple Mountain'' (紫峰). Tsukuba is also a great place to enjoy hiking and cycling.

Venue

The conference will be held in "Kasuga Auditorium" in Kasuga Campus of University of Tsukuba. The Kasuga Campus is located at the south end of the university, near Tsukuba station and Tsukuba Center bus terminal.

Kasuga campus

You can easily reach the Kasuga campus on foot (about 10 minutes walk from the station), but if you want to avoid walking, you may take any bus departing from the bus stop No.6 in Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal and get off at the second stop "Kasuga Area Mae" (Fare: 190 JPY, either by cash or by travel IC card). See the map below to find "Kasuga Auditorium" (春日講堂). It is located behind the main buildings. Follow the blue path on the map to the venue.

In the break time, the coffee and the snacks are available in Rooms 105 and 106 in the building 7A (see the campus map above.) In Kasuga Auditorium, drinking is prohibited. So, after each break, please do not take a cup of coffee/tea/water to the session. The water bottle (plastic bottle) with cap is allowed to bring in.

Wifi connection

The eduroam access is available at the venue. Please use your own username and password to connect to the internet. For participants who cannot use the eduroam, we may provide guest accounts of University of Tsukuba. Come to the registration desk and fill in the application form.

Lunch

Although the canteen of Kasuga Campus is open from Tuesday to Friday, we do not recommend it. September is still in the period of the student vacation and very few clerks are working. The next closest one is an Italian restaurant "Garden Terrace" at Global Guest House (see the campus map of the venue). There are a restaurant "Denny's" and a Japanese noodle restaurant "Masudaya" near the south-west corner of the Kasuga Campus. See the map of the venue.

If you do not mind a ten-minute walk, there are many more restaurants and shops near the venue, especially around Tsukuba Center. Here are the maps you can check out.

Welcome reception (Sunday, Sep. 22)

We welcome participants arriving in Tsukuba on Sunday to a welcome drink between 18:00 and 20:00 on Sunday, September 22nd, at Cafe “Engi” in Tsukuba Center. Please come to the registration desk there and get a name tag and a ticket for Japanese craft beers. It is located next to Hotel Nikko Tsukuba(ホテル日航つくば). Go downstairs in front of the hotel, and you find a small plaza and an entrance to Cafe “Engi.” You can also access from the ground floor of Hotel Nikko Tsukuba, on the opposite side of the reception desk of the hotel.

Come to the registration desk first and we provide you with tickets for craft beers brewed in Japan and wines from Italy. Here are the lists (Beer / Wine). You can choose when you order at the bar counter. Enjoy!

On the Sunday evening, you may find many food stands and beer booths with a large crowd in the open space, because it is within a period of the Beer Festival in Tsukuba Center. You can enjoy beers and local foods at the Festival, but do not confuse this with our welcome drink of the conference.

Conference dinner (Thursday, Sep. 26)

The conference dinner will be held in the Imperial Room (2F) in Hotel Grand Shinonome (ホテルグランド東雲)on Thursday, September 26th, starting at 18:30 pm. It is within walking distance from many hotels near Tsukuba Center, about 10 minutes on foot from Tsukuba station and from the conference venue (mapgoogle map). Although we expect most of the participants to walk there, we are planning to have a shuttle service. If you want a ride, please contact the local organizers.

Weather

Weather in late September is warm. However, it is exceptionally hot this year and it can be over 30 ºC in the day time. There is a chance of rain.
